“Yanshui Beehive Fireworks Festival” is one of the world’s top three folk festivals and the most celebrated religious festival in Taiwan. Tens of thousands of rockets, resembling “beehives” of explosives waiting to be set on fire, are launched, erupting into a roar of flaming projectiles. The festival attracts tens of thousands of visitors from around the world. Along with Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival in northern Taiwan, the two events are the two major religious celebrations in Taiwan, earning the saying “going north for the sky lantern and south for beehive fireworks”.
